In a recent interview with TheWrap, CEO Chris Meledandri denies the recent rumors going around of a Zelda movie adaptation. Being behind the great success of the mario movie as well the despicable me films, it’s no surprise people are looking at them for the Zelda film as well.
However, at the Annecy International Animation Festival, Meledandri states; “I don’t know where that came from,” to TheWrap. “I mean I can understand how people would surmise all sorts of things because obviously, we’ve had a great experience working together. My relationship with Nintendo now includes being on their board of directors, so I understand how people can surmise these things. But in terms of the specifics, that was just something that I’ve been hearing lots of rumors. This is just about what’s next between Nintendo and Illumination.”
Now while this doesn’t necessarily mean Illumination won’t pick up the zelda project in the future, it does leave room for other studios to tackle it instead. Personally someone like Sony or Dreamworks could do the animated film justice with their style of animation.
