The Simple Monogatari Series Watch Guide

The famous controversial Monogatari is one of the animes communities most beloved and confusing series to date. Though most of the confusion has to do with the production issues it faced early on. These delays are also the main reason as to why watching it chronologically isn’t recommended. However, here you’ll find it easier in this simple monogatari series watch guide, as we follow the light novel order that the author originally envisioned for the series.

General Story

Overall the plot centers around our main character Koyomi Araragi, a 3rd-year high-school student who after surviving a vampire attack ends up encountering several girls. These girls in particular are being affected by a variety of supernatural phenomena from ghosts, deities, spirits and much more. Koyomi helps these girls involved with these beings who some act as a representation of their own problems or personalities; however, through these experiences Koyomi learns to understand himself as well. Also it’s a very dialogue heavy show so keep that in mind when starting this series, since you might get left confused when figuring out the plot yourself.

Side Note

While I did give a brief story description over each entry for my last watch guide where I covered the Fate series. Here I’ll only be listing them in the LN order, number of episodes, and as well as where to find them. However, the general description of the story above should give you a small idea of what to expect when starting this series. Before we start though, you should know that the monogatari anime is comprised of multiple different stories, while still keeping the same cast. This means while the continuity stays the same, each entry is treated as a separate story.

In Conclusion

I’ve only just gotten into this series awhile back since a new anime has recently started airing called Malevolent Spirits: Monogatari, a new entry to the Monogatari universe. Just kidding, as a noob I got fooled for a few minutes till I figured out that monogatari means tale/story so it’s easy to get confused. While it isn’t connected in any way it’s definitely shaping up to be an interesting anime to check out if you haven’t already.
